Support has also come from the young musicians of Churcher’s College. Barbara, Elspeth, Julie, Lindy and Penny attended a school orchestra rehearsal to collect a cheque and were treated to a special performance of Pirates of the Caribbean. Money had been collected at a lunchtime concert at St Peter’s Church and through a 24 hour Music Marathon. Helen Purchase, Head of Instrumental Studies said “we wanted to support a charity, and I could think of none better than our local Hospice at Home”.

Petersfield Town Mayor, Mr George Watkinson has chosen The Rosemary Foundation as the charity he will support for his year in office.

Barbara and Julie attended a social gathering at The Festival Hall in Petersfield on the 10 August. Mr Watkinson thanked town councilors, officials and local people from commerce and other charitable organizations for their hard work over the previous year and hoped that they would support him in his efforts to raise funds for The Rosemary Foundation in the coming year.

Julie said “We had a splendid evening and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet representatives from the local community, including some of the other Petersfield based charities and local churches. We are thrilled and honoured that the Mayor has chosen The Rosemary Foundation as his charity for the year. Building on the extensive publicity generated by the Petersfield Post, we hope that most people have now heard of our charity”.

The Rosemary Consort was formed by local musician Louisa Denby for a special fundraising concert at St Laurence Church in Petersfield on 17^th September.

A torrential downpour before the start did not deter the audience and the church was packed to hear a superb programme of English Choral Music Through the Ages.  

The quality of the singing from the eight members of the Consort was outstanding and this was reflected in the prolonged and appreciative applause.  

A magnificent £1000 was collected for The Rosemary Foundation at the end of the concert.  

Many thanks to go to Louisa whose idea the concert was and for all her hard work beforehand.

The Mayor wins a prize on the Teddybola

A good time was had by all at the Rosemary Foundation Roadshow at St Wilfrid’s Church Cowplain on 17th September. A wide variety of stalls kept people busy and bacon rolls lunches and teas proved very popular..

In addition to fund-raising we were able to introduce people to the Foundation and spend time with those who needed it.

Our guests of honour were the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Ken Smith and his Consort, Mrs Hazel Smith and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gerry Shimbart and his wife Cllr Elaine Shimbart. We also had a visit from the local police who are now committed to visiting community events. Support for the Foundation was also very generous and about £700 was raised.

We receive some lovely letters here at The Rosemary Foundation which are very much appreciated by the Nursing Staff and the Volunteers. The year six pupils at Liss Junior School organised an annual Charity Day in the Summer Term as part of Health and Citizenship Week. Pupils nominate charities to support and then vote for their favourite. This time the overwhelming majority chose The Rosemary Foundation, largely because one pupil was able to explain how the nurses had helped his father so much during his last days.

The children were completely responsible for the running of stalls and games and their ideas were most creative. The teachers were particularly impressed by the mature way in which groups responded to this challenge and their level of motivation.

The remaining school population enjoyed an extended playtime in order that they could spend lots of money! As a consequence over  £600 was raised in just over an hour, which represents an all time record for this activity and shows that the charity is highly valued, not only by adults but by children as well.

The Main Building - Liss Junior School

Ade will brave searing 40 degree temperatures and gruelling mountain climbs as he pedals 260 miles in five exhausting days. He is hoping to raise £10,000 for The Rosemary Foundation.

And the 45-year-old admitted: “Now I’ve paid my registration fee and fully appreciated the enormity of the challenge, I’m beginning to realise why people might think I’m a little crazy!”

Ade was introduced to The Rosemary Foundation through Twitter – and it instantly became a cause dear to his heart as his mum, Teresa, has stomach cancer. Ade, who lives in Wallington, near Sutton, said: “I saw a tweet from The Rosemary Foundation asking for wine donations for their volunteers’ evening at Langrish House earlier this year.

“So I re-tweeted this to my 1,200 followers to try and get some support. The Rosemary Foundation then asked if I would come along to the evening – so I did just that and was so impressed by what they do that I decided to help.

“My two brothers, our sister and myself are caring for our mum, so I felt a real empathy for the nurses and the incredible work they do. “The next thing I knew I had signed up to cycle through Death Valley to raise funds for the charity.” As well as coping with the extreme heat on his epic two-wheeled adventure next March, Ade will have to conquer mountain passes climbing to 5,500 feet before reaching journey’s end in Las Vegas.

He added: “The last time I got on a bike was at Center Parcs just before John Major’s election victory in 1992, which wasn’t quite as rigorous as this promises to be! “I wanted to do something my mum would be proud of and I hope the people of Petersfield will be kind enough to support the cause.”

The intrepid cyclist – who has worked in the inheritance/wills business for more than 20 years and has run his own company, Maximum Inheritance Specialists, since 2006 – has several fund-raising ideas. He
is having a top specially made which sports his own logo and that of The Rosemary Foundation – and he wants as many local businesses as possible to sponsor him by adding their logos.

He said: “The top will be my uniform. I will wear it every time I walk out of the front door of my house from now until the Death Valley challenge – and then on the bike ride itself. So whoever adds their logo is guaranteed good exposure.”
